Texas Water Camp

Every year the District offers scholarships to two area high school aged students to attend the Texas Water Camp in Monahans. The students are chosen by the Board of Directors based on short essays they submit. This year's camp will be held July 13 – 17, 2008. Any interested student should contact the District office for an application. The deadline is May 1, 2008.

The objective of the 5-day event is to help older youth throughout the state become aware of current water issues and appreciate
the implications of agricultural, industrial, municipal and home water use on water quality and supply. The camp features field
trips, tours and hands-on group project work. While time is made available for recreation, the camp focuses on water issues,
quality and conservation education.

This year, 15 boys and 15 girls are being invited to attend camp from all across the state of Texas. Participants must be of high
school age and have an interest in water quality and conservation, and be willing to participate as a team member during the 5-day
long camp.

In addition, four adults are needed to serve as cabin directors and counselors. This is an excellent opportunity for Extension
agents, Natural Resource Conservation Service personnel, Water District employees, teachers, and volunteer leaders to learn
more about this critical resource.
