Western Spiderwort
Tradescantia occidentalis
According
to some sources, Spiderwort is named such because the sap from the broken stem
forms filaments like a spider's web.
Spiderwort blossoms are normally blue. When the blossom is exposed to radiation it turns light purple.
Several types of spiderwort exist. The Western Spiderwort is very similar to the Ohio Spiderwort. Both are common to Texas.
